An essay has been defined in a variety of ways. One definition is a "prose composition with a focused subject of discussion" or a "long, systematic discourse".
That was the second deadliest school shooting in U. More recently, forty people were killed by firearms March 31,across the United States ages ranging from 4 to 87 Kirk. The gun-control debate has always been a heated conversation for everyone, but with these recent events it has become more important than ever.
At the core of this debate, many ask the question: Why do people kill each other with firearms? This film explores the common answers people give such as poverty, violent video games and music. Although this film is highly successful and features very good important points, after a deeper analysis Moore misleads his audience many times and therefore over damages his argument and credibility.
Michigan native, Michael Moore, is an award winning filmmaker, bestselling author, and liberal activist, who garnered national attention with his first Emmy Award winning documentary, Roger and Me, in Moore He has become well known as an outspoken filmmaker who tackles controversial topics such as gun violence, the terrorist attack on the United States, and many others.
In Michael Moore released his highly successful film, Bowling for Thesis of bowling for columbine, in which he featured a tragedy where two Colorado students massacred twelve classmates and one teacher at Columbine High School on April 20, He uses this event to propose a broad question: Why does the United States have a problem with gun violence, more specifically, murders by firearm?
From there he spends most of the film examining the reasons why gun violence is a problem in the United States. This film targets an audience of fans, gun-control advocates and others interested in the Columbine shooting.
What is important to mention is Moore makes very good points in this film. At another point in the movie, Moore also makes some very good points when he talks about what many people say about the reasoning for gun violence. He relays the idea that people say poverty is the cause but challenges that idea with Canada having a higher unemployment rate than the United States.
He then says that violent movies, video games and music can cause this behavior but dismisses this idea with the fact that the rest of the world watches, listens, and plays those violent things just as much as Americans do. Finally Moore gives the potential answer of children coming from the broken homes, but according to Moore, Great Britain has a higher divorce rate than the United States.
These points really help his argument because they retort the common held beliefs about the causes of gun violence. Despite his few good points, Moore misleads his audience many times.
His first indiscretion happens within the title. The title in and of itself is misleading.
What is also important to note is that the title was created because supposedly the two shooters from Columbine went to their bowling class right before carrying out their plans later that day. When actually, according to the police report, the two boys never showed up that morning Truth About Bowling.
This small concern hurts his argument because it can make someone question his motives in making this film. If his intentions were to make a film about gun violence, he should not have capitalized off of a tragedy in order to gain attention but instead use his fame to promote his ideas.
When he does eventually discuss Columbine, he makes the audience believe the National Rifle Association NRA dropped everything and ran to Littleton to hold their annual rally to be disrespectful.
The rally, which consisted of the annual meeting, seminars, workshops, luncheons, exhibits by gun makers and other vendors, and festivities, would have originally began on April 30, While vilifying the NRA, Moore takes things a step further.
He shows an edited clip of Charlton Heston giving a speech. Moore or possibly an editor looks to have taken audio of seven sentences, from five different parts of the speech, and a section given in a completely different speech, and molded them together. Each edit is covered by inserting a picture or video footage for a few seconds.
This splicing of clips is a big problem for his credibility.Going Postal: Rage, Murder, and Rebellion: From Reagan's Workplaces to Clinton's Columbine and Beyond [Mark Ames] on vetconnexx.com *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers.
